Nursing (MSN-CNL)
The Master of Science in Nursing-Clinical Nurse Leader (MSN-CNL) is awarded by the Graduate College. Instruction is offered through the College of Nursing.

What follows is the admission information applicable to MSN-CNL candidates.

Admission requirements
Applicants must meet the admission requirements of the Graduate College and the MSN-CNL Program.

Note for International Applicants: Due to the level of Internet-based coursework in the MSN-CNL program, international students in this program of study are not eligible to receive an I-20 form for F-1 (student) visas/immigration status. Many international students, though, will be able to receive documentation to qualify for J-1 (exchange visitors) visas/status. Questions regarding visas and immigration documentation should be addressed to International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) via email at isss@uiowa.edu.

Application procedures for the MSN-CNL
You will need to send some application materials to your academic department and some to the Office of Admissions, which handles Graduate College applications.

  • A second set of your official academic records/transcripts (current and former UI students do not need to provide UI transcripts)
  • International students may also be required to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores to comply with the University's English Language Proficiency Requirements.
  • Once recommended for admission, international students must send a Financial Statement.

If you Apply Online, the $60 application fee ($100 for international students) is payable by Discover, MasterCard, or Visa.
If you cannot pay by credit card, you may Download and Print an Application* and pay the fee by check or money order in U.S. currency made payable to "The University of Iowa."
