You will need to meet with an academic advisor before registering for classes.

Review course listings
Prospective and admitted students can go to our web-based student service center, called ISIS (Iowa Student Information Services) to review our Schedule of Courses.

Schedule of Courses on ISIS

Schedule an appointment with your advisor
Before you register for classes, you will need to meet with your academic advisor to plan your course schedule. Contact your major department if you have not already been notified of your advisor's name. Graduate nondegree students are advised by Caren Cox, Associate Director of Academic Affairs, 205 Gilmore Hall, 319-335-2135.

During the meeting, your adviser will give you a four-digit registration number or will authorize ISIS to accept your registration. Admission to some courses will require instructor approval, so be sure to obtain any necessary documentation in that regard before trying to register.

When to register
Students admitted to a department or program register during the first two days of early registration. Nondegree students register on the last day of early registration. Individual registration times are assigned at random. Your assigned time will be posted on ISIS or you may get this information from your academic advisor.
Although you may not register before your scheduled time, you may register anytime thereafter, up until the opening of classes.

Register online or in person
After meeting with your advisor, you can register online using ISIS or take your registration number on a printed registration form to the Registration
Center at 30 Calvin Hall.

Obtain your Student ID
Any time after registering for classes, go to Room 253 of the Iowa Memorial Union to obtain a Student ID card. You will need to present a photo identification (driver’s license, passport, etc.) for verification. The card will provide access to campus facilities and services throughout your career at Iowa, and may be used to charge expenses to your U-bill at various University locations. Review the web site for more details.
