English
language requirement
International
applicants
whose first language is not English must also submit results of
the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
as part of the application process. There
is a fee, and payment must accompany your order or it will be returned
to you. The University's TOEFL school code is 6681.
- Graduate
course work TOEFL requirement
A minimum TOEFL score of 550 on the paper-based test (213 on the computer-based
test; 81 on the Internet-based test) is required for admission as a
nondegree graduate student.
- Applicants
with TOEFL scores below 600
Newly admitted nondegree students who present TOEFL scores below 600 on the
paper-based test (250 on the computer-based test) are required to complete
an English
Proficiency Evaluation before their first registration for classes. The
results will determine whether you will be able to register for courses as
a nondegree student.
Automatic
waivers of the TOEFL requirement are granted for those who have completed
a bachelor's degree (or higher) at an accredited university in the United
States, United Kingdom, Canada (excluding French Quebec), Africa (English
speaking), Australia, or New Zealand. The TOEFL is offered worldwide
throughout the year.
Alternative to the TOEFL
An International English Language Testing System (IELTS) total score of 7.0, with no subscore less than 6.0, may be used to satisfy the English-language requirement. All IELTS test takers will be required to take the on-campus English Proficiency Evaluation.
Restrictions
on study for F-2 dependents
F-2 dependents may enroll only as part-time students and only
in courses that are "avocational or recreational" (i.e., courses
taken for enrichment purposes only—those which will not be used
at any time toward a degree). F-2 dependents who wish to study full time
need to apply for a change of status to F-1 student. |
