Test score: Enter your ACT composite score, or, if you took the SAT, enter your critical reading and mathematics scores. Your SAT score will be converted to an ACT equivalent according to the following table:

Number of completed core courses: Enter the number of full-year courses that you’ve taken or plan to take in English, mathematics, natural science, social science, and foreign language. (A one-semester course counts as 0.5.) While additional courses in areas such as the fine arts and technology will help round out your high school experience and prepare you for future careers, they are not part of the core courses used to calculate your admission index.

What Does This Index Mean?
The Regent Admission Index combines four factors that predict college success: ACT/SAT test score, high school rank, grade-point average, and the number of completed core courses. An index score of 245 or above is one of the requirements for Iowa high school students to be automatically admitted to Iowa State University, the University of Northern Iowa, and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at The University of Iowa.
Students must also take the minimum number of high school courses required by the university to which they are applying and submit a formal application for admission.

If You Don’t Have One of the Required Factors
If you don’t have one of the required factors used to calculate your Regent Admission Index (e.g., your school doesn’t rank or you can’t enter a grade-point average), your application will be evaluated individually by the institution when you apply.

If Your Index Score is Below 245
Students who don’t achieve a Regent Admission Index score of 245, but who otherwise demonstrate potential and commitment to succeed at a regent university, may be offered admission after an individual review of their application.

High School Course Requirements
In addition to meeting the Regent Admission Index requirement, students must complete the minimum number of high school courses specified below for the institution to which they’re applying.

Three years, including one year each of algebra, geometry, and advanced algebra. |

Three years, including one year each from any two of the following: biology, chemistry, and physics for admission to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Three years, including at least one year of chemistry and one year of physics, for admission to the College of Engineering. |
Three years, including courses in general science, biology, chemistry, earth science, or physics; laboratory experience highly recommended. |
