I’ve always been a Hawkeye fan, but I also came to Iowa because I like the location. It’s close enough to Des Moines that I can go home when I want to and far enough away that I can still have my independence. The Hawk’s Nest is just a big group of students getting together to hang out and watch the Hawkeye basketball games. Usually, we get pretty rowdy on the floor. We’ve got guys with face paint and wigs on, and people wearing different colors of knee-high socks. There are all sorts of wacky things going on in the Hawk’s Nest. When I first bought my tickets to be in the Hawk’s Nest, I only knew one friend with tickets. But when I got to the first game, I recognized some more people that I knew and made new friends. It’s a good way to meet new people. I was a basketball cheerleader in high school, so I like being up close and personal with the basketball players and being close to the action. It makes me feel more comfortable with the whole college experience to get involved in things like this. I also have student tickets to the football games. I like how the campus is. You can pretty much walk everywhere or the Cambus can take you wherever you need to go if you can’t walk there. I think it’s the perfect size, not too big and not too small. The teachers and professors let you know when they are available, and with e-mail you can always get ahold of someone if you need to. After I graduate I hope to get a teaching job in hopefully second or third grade and I would also like to teach dance. |
