When
I first came to Iowa, I wasn’t
sure what I wanted to do, but I found out Iowa was a great place to explore
all of the possibilities I was interested in.
Originally, I was a pre-med
student and I was able to get a position as a research assistant at
the Veterans Administration Hospital. I worked in the only lab in the
world
studying a new protein, which the lab had patented. When I switched
my major to English and Religious Studies, I had the opportunity to intern
at the
UI Center for Human Rights researching child labor.
Now, I work in the
student government office and I have been able to enact some positive
change through
reform. I am also co-chair of the UI Lecture Committee. We bring in
people
from every field, from politics to literature to science, and provide
the student body with as much personal contact with world-renowned
leaders through
individual classroom visits and receptions.
I am incredibly grateful
for the opportunity to provide the student body with the perspectives
of the
most accomplished and interesting people of our time. |
