I literally had the quintessential college experience. Working in theatre all four years at Iowa, combined with a communications degree, helped with knowing a lot about the business of working in television. My theatre major developed the poise I need on camera, and the communications major helped me pitch myself for other work. Iowa also gave me huge opportunities I wouldn’t have had at any other college. While on campus, I acted in several plays and was flown to New York City to workshop Angels in America with playwright Tony Kushner. A week after I graduated, I left for Los Angeles with other UI theatre students. Everyone helped each other get established, plus I found that Iowa has graduates spread out all over the country. I’ve connected with UI theatre arts graduates wherever I’ve gone, whether it’s been Chicago, New York, or Los Angeles. |
