First-Year Student Application Process
These application materials are required for U.S. citizens and permanent residents. There is a different application process for International Students.

Admission Requirements Application Process

• Submit an application
  • Apply Online or Print an Application*
• Pay the $40 application fee
  • Online applicants pay by credit card. Make checks payable to The University of Iowa. The fee is not refundable.
• Have your test scores sent
  • Have your ACT or SAT scores sent to us by the testing agency. Our institutional code for the ACT is 1356; for the SAT, it is 6681.
• Have your transcripts sent
  • Have your high school send an official transcript of your grades and class rank to the Office of Admissions, 107 Calvin Hall, Iowa City, IA 52242-1396. If you have taken College Classes, ask each college to send transcripts.

Application deadlines

• Summer Session & Fall Semester—June 1
  All application materials must be postmarked on or before June 1.
• Spring Semester—November 15
  All application materials must be postmarked on or before November 15 (October 1 for international applicants).

After you apply
Expect an Admission Decision within five weeks from the date we receive your completed application and all supporting materials. You will receive a Hawk ID and password after your application is received. The Hawk ID and password will enable you to access the University's online Iowa Student Information Services (ISIS) to track the status of your application through your Admissions Profile.

Accepting our offer of admission
Pay the Acceptance Fee as soon as possible but no later than May 1 for summer and fall applicants (November 15 for spring applicants). The Acceptance Fee is $235 ($250 beginning Summer 2010), and is refundable prior to May 1 (November 15 for spring applicants).

Your Acceptance Fee must be paid before you can make Orientation reservations through your Admissions Profile on ISIS.
