How to apply

  • Submit an application
  • Pay the $60 application fee
    • Online applications require a credit card payment. If you choose to download and print an application, the $60 fee must accompany the application. The fee must be paid in U.S. dollars, with a check drawn on a U.S. bank, a U.S. postal money order, or an international money order. Make checks payable to The University of Iowa. Do not send cash. Application fees are not refundable.
  • Have your academic records sent
    • You will need to ask every secondary school, college, university, technical/vocational institute, or professional institution you have attended to send us your official records or transcripts. All records should bear the original stamp or seal of the institution and the signature of a school official. Documents not in English must be accompanied by a complete, literal English translation certified by the issuing institution. Records cannot be returned or transferred.
  • Have your test scores sent
    • SAT or ACT scores are required of international applicants who complete secondary school in the United States.
  • Have your TOEFL scores sent
    • TOEFL scores are required of international applicants whose first language is not English.
  • Send us your Financial Statement
    • International applicants requesting F1 or J1 visa status are required to complete a Financial Statement* showing evidence of adequate support to cover the costs of one full year of study at The University of Iowa.

Application deadlines
The
application deadlines are the same for international first-year students and international transfer students, but they may vary by college.

You will receive a Hawk ID and password after your application is received. The Hawk ID and password will enable you to access the University's web-based Iowa Student Information Services (ISIS) to track the status of your application through your Admissions Profile.
