| The
University continually strives to increase the number of women and ethnic
and racial minorities on the faculty, and over the past 10 years, the representation
of these populations has steadily grown.
University faculty
Minority
representation among Iowa's tenured and tenure-track faculty is
currently 17.1 percent, up from 11.4 percent in 1997. More than 250 faculty members are Asian/Pacific Islander/Native Hawaiian, Hispanic/Latino,
African
American/Black, or American Indian.
In
addition, more than 430 of Iowa's 1,485 tenured faculty members are women,
an increase of 52 percent since 1997.

Total University workforce
About
8.2 percent of the University's total workforce, including faculty, administrators, and all professional employees, belongs to a racial or ethnic minority
group. About 63 percent of all UI employees are women.
