First-year students are admitted to the University of Iowa Honors Program based on a combination of their high school grade-point average (GPA) and their ACT or SAT scores.

Admission requirements for the honors program

  • Incoming students need an ACT composite score of 27 or higher (combined SAT Critical Reading and Math score of 1210 or higher) and a high school GPA of 3.80 or higher. Students also qualify with a GPA of 3.70 or higher and an ACT composite score of 30 or higher (or the SAT equivilent of 1330 or higher).

Individual review process
If you don't meet the above criteria and would like us to consider your case on an individual basis, please send us the following:

  • A letter describing how you would take advantage of the opportunities in the honors program
  • Your transcript
  • A letter of recommendation from a high school teacher
