Honors admission requirements for international students
Students accepted into the University of Iowa Honors Program are notified upon or shortly after their admission to the university.

  • International first-year students
    Incoming students need an ACT composite score of 27 or above (combined SAT Critical Reading and Math scores of 1210 or above) and a high school GPA of 3.80 or higher (on a 4.0 scale).
  • International transfer students
  • Transfer students need a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher on at least 24 semester hours (s.h.) of transferable credit.
  • For students with less than 24 s.h. of transferable credit, admission is based on the above first-year student requirements and a transfer cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher.

Individual review process
If you don't meet the above criteria and would like us to consider your case on an individual basis, please send us the following:

  • A letter describing how you would take advantage of the opportunities in the honors program
  • Your transcript
  • A letter of recommendation from a high school teacher
