Honors admission requirements for international students
Students accepted into the University of Iowa Honors Program are notified upon or shortly after their admission to the university.

  • International first-year students
    To be admitted to the University of Iowa Honors Program, first-year international applicants must have a B+ average (or the foreign equivalent) and submit a combined SAT Critical Reading and Math score of 1210 or above (or an ACT composite score of 27 or above).
  • International transfer students
    To be admitted to the University of Iowa Honors Program, international transfer applicants must present a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) or the foreign equivalent comparable to a B+ average.

Individual review process
If you don't meet the above criteria and would like us to consider your case on an individual basis, please send us the following:

  • A letter describing how you would take advantage of the opportunities in the honors program
  • Your transcript
  • A letter of recommendation from a high school teacher
