Career Leadership Academy
The Career Leadership Academy is a living-learning community designed for students who want to jump start the development of their leadership and career skills.
It is open to all first-year students, regardless of major, and features exclusive opportunities to network with employers and interact with faculty from various disciplines. In addition, upper-class students from the Career Leadership Academy mentor new participants during the fall semester.
Course requirements
The academy also has an academic component, which includes these required first-year courses:
- Fall semester: College Transitions (2 s.h. course)—Small-group discussions of college culture, university resources, study skills, test strategies, personal values, self motivation, and goal setting.
- Spring semester: Career Leadership Academy Phase I: The Self-Aware Leader (1 s.h. course)—This course covers leadership history and concepts, goal setting, the Relational Leadership Model, personal values and ethics, meaningful involvement and engagement, career development, and self-awareness assessments. Seats will be reserved in this class for all students in the Career Leadership Academy living-learning community.
Activities may include
You will earn academic credit by participating in the required leadership and career development class during the spring semester.
- Interaction with faculty, staff, students, and employers
- Exclusive dinners with faculty and employers
- Workshops focused on career and leadership development topics;
- Mentor/mentee program linking upper-class Career Leadership Academy students with living-learning community students
- Social events with Career Leadership Academy students, instructors, and partners
First-year students only
This community is open to all first-year students.
