The Greek community at Iowa provides a welcoming social structure for many students. There’s no pressure to join—it’s a matter of personal choice. About 1,900 students belong to one of 34 fraternities or sororities at the University.

UI Greek Community

Benefits

  • Build social skills—Membership in a fraternity or sorority brings a built-in circle of friends.
  • Have a place to hang out—The Greek chapter houses on campus are spacious, traditional-looking buildings that provide a social gathering place, study areas and, typically, housing for chapter members.
  • Find opportunities for leadership and philanthropy—The fraternities and sororities are student-run organizations, offering you opportunities for leadership experience.
