| After
finals week in the fall, go home, relax, and reintroduce yourself to family
and friends. In early January, your grades will be posted on Iowa Student
Information Services (ISIS).
Check your grades carefully. If you think a grade is incorrect, talk with
the instructor when you return to campus. Mistakes can happen, and it
is your responsibility to bring them to light.
A grade of I (incomplete) or O (unreported grade) becomes an F after one semester if you don’t arrange with the instructor to have the grade changed. Poor
grades? If you fail the first course in a sequence, do not register for the subsequent course(s). Even if you get a C-, you may not be prepared to go on. See your advisor right away to consider changing your registration. First-year students whose GPAs fall below 1.85 will be placed on academic probation. If this happens to you, it will be noted on your grade report. See your advisor soon to discuss what probation means and what you can do to regain “good standing.” Your advisor will give you ideas, not more grief. If you are on probation, you will receive a letter from your college’s academic programs office requesting a probation interview. Schedule one right away for more ideas about improving your academic standing. Probation is a sign that you have academic and/or other problems that need to be worked on immediately. First-year students who have not regained “good standing” by the end of their second semester may be dismissed from the University. |
