Questions or problems about your first semester should be dealt with in January. By now you understand the registration routine. At spring semester planning, you will have more time for long-range issues, such as your developing interests in majors, minors, and certificate programs.

You and your advisor will discuss your Degree Audit reflecting last semester’s work, revisit the General Education Program requirements, and look at your graduation plan. You also can discuss:

Enrolling for the summer session
Summer can be a good time to focus on one or two important courses, or catch up or get ahead on semester hours. Other reasons for going to summer school include:

  • Taking a desired course you couldn’t get into at any other time (fewer students attend during summer)
  • Getting started on your major or world language courses
  • Retaking a course using the second-grade-only option in order to take a subsequent course in the fall
  • A need for more semester hours to remain on track (e.g., to take Financial Accounting as a first-semester sophomore)

Your advisor will help you with summer registration, and you can register for summer classes when you register for the fall semester. There also is a regular registration period for summer courses.

If you’re planning summer course work at another school, discuss this with your advisor and consult the Office of Admissions (107 Calvin Hall) about Transfer Course Equivalencies.
