Orientation for International Students
All incoming Iowa undergraduate students are required to attend Orientation.

International students will attend one or two programs depending on whether or not they are in F-1 or J-1 status.

• International students in F-1 or J-1 status—Incoming international undergraduate students in F-1 and J-1 status (and those who plan to be) are required to attend two University of Iowa orientation programs:
  • International Student Orientation (Office of International Students and Scholars)
  • Academic Orientation/Registration
• International students not in F-1 or J-1 status—If you are an international student who is not in F-1 or J-1 status, you are only required to attend a one-day Academic Orientation/Registration program, and not the week-long International Student Orientation program.
  • Choose from the First-Year Student Academic Orientation programs if you are a "true freshman."
  • Choose from the Transfer Student Academic Orientation programs if you are transferring to Iowa from another college or university.
