Welcome to Your Student's First Year
Welcome parents to the Hawkeye family and we hope you enjoyed Orientation. As your child heads off to campus this fall, rest assured that you will continue to play an important role in his or her life.

Many freshmen transition to college without a hitch, but some will face situations they find unfamiliar. They may even call you for advice. We developed the following information with that in mind.

We identified issues commonly confronted by first-year college students, and although your child may not need this advice or assistance, we asked student-service professionals from across our campus to provide information that you can use—just in case.

Review these common issues for first-year students, and find out how to react if you need to.

How parents can help
Help your student work through any first-year frustrations, and use the Black & Gold Handbook for New Students to identify appropriate University resources.
