College of Engineering
The College of Engineering admits qualified first-year students directly out of high school.

Admission requirements for first-year students
To be admitted, you must:

  • Meet the minimum High School Course Requirements, and demonstrate success (A or B grades) in math and science courses.
  • Present ACT math and composite scores of 25 or higher (or an SAT math score of 620 or higher and combined critical reading and math scores of 1130 or higher).
  • Present a Regent Admission Index score of 265 or higher.

If your school does not rank
We will base our admission decision on a holistic review of your application. Your high school courses and the grades earned in those courses, your cumulative grade-point average (GPA), course rigor, ACT and/or SAT scores, and any other information that you provide us will be taken into consideration. If you are concerned that your academic profile does not accurately reflect your abilities, apply through our individual review process as described below.

If you are a homeschooled applicant
Our admission decision will be based on a holistic review of your transcripts, areas of study, and your ACT or SAT score. Any additional information provided also will be taken into consideration.

Individual review process
The Individual Review Process is designed for applicants who do not meet our published admission standards.

Application deadlines
Deadlines vary depending on when you plan to enroll.

  • Fall Semester
    • Deadline extended to June 1 for Fall Semester 2012 admission (March 1 for international applicants)
    • Deadline to apply is April 1, 2013, for Fall Semester 2013 admission (March 1 for international students)
  • Summer Session
    • Deadline extended to May 1 for Summer Session 2012 admission (March 1 for international applicants)
    • Deadline to apply is April 1, 2013, for Summer Session 2013
  • November 15—Spring Semester (October 1 for international applicants)

If your first language is not English and you are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

  • If you graduated from a U.S. high school, you may be required to complete an English Proficiency Evaluation during your Orientation program. Exceptions are made if your ACT English subscore is 21 or higher, SAT Critical Reading score is 540 or higher, or if you have a TOEFL score of 100 or higher.
  • If you graduated from a high school outside the U.S., you must present evidence of English proficiency by submitting an ACT English score of 21 or higher, SAT Critical Reading score of 540 or higher, a minimum TOEFL score of 80 with no subscore lower than 17, or an IELTS total score of 6.5 with no subscore below 6. Students who meet the ACT, SAT, or IELTS score requirement will also be required to complete the English Proficiency Evaluation at Orientation. Please note: students with a TOEFL score of 100 or higher will not be required to take the English Proficiency Evaluation.

Engineering General Education Program
After admission to the College of Engineering, all students who wish to earn a degree must complete the following General Education Program course work in addition to the course work required for your specific major.
