If you have a TOEFL
Score of 530 or higher: A minimum TOEFL score of 530 on the paper-based test, 197 on the computer-based
test, or 71 on the Internet-based test is required to be considered for regular admission to the University
and to begin study in a degree program.
If you have a TOEFL Score
of 600 or above: Newly admitted undergraduates whose TOEFL scores are 600 and above
on the paper-based test (or 250 and above on the computer-based test, or 100 and above on the Internet-based test)
may begin academic course work
without restriction.
If you have a TOEFL Score
Below 600: Applicants who present a TOEFL score below 600 on the paper-based
test (or below 250 on the computer-based test, or below 100 on the Internet-based test) are required
to complete an
on-campus English Proficiency Evaluation before their first registration
for classes.
Based on the results of the English Proficiency Evaluation, these students
may:
- be allowed
to take a full academic course load excluding English as
a Second Language (ESL) courses;
- be required
to enroll in credit-bearing ESL courses in addition to regular academic courses; or
- be required
to enroll in the Iowa Intensive English Program (IIEP) until their
language proficiency
reaches an appropriate level.
