College of
Pharmacy
The
Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program consists of two
years of pre-pharmacy study at The University of Iowa or any accredited
two- or four-year college, followed by four years of study in
the College of Pharmacy.
PharmD admission
requirements
Admission is highly competitive. Completion
of all requirements does not guarantee admission. Requirements include:
- completion
of Required
Pre-Pharmacy Course Work at the college level prior to submitting
an application,
- a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) 2.50
or higher,
- completion of the Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT),
- completion of online Pharmacy College Application Service application (PharmCAS),
- a personal
statement,
- two letters
of recommendation,
- a personal
interview, and
- a Supplemental Application and $100 supplemental application fee.
Application
deadline
The application deadline is December 1 for fall admission (October 1 for international applicants). Applications
are accepted only for fall admission.
Degree
Audit
When you are admitted, a Degree Audit will become part of your
Admissions Profile in ISIS. The audit:
- specifies
which requirements for your
degree you still need to fulfill,
- indicates
(for pre-business, pre-nursing, and pre-pharmacy students) which prerequisite
courses necessary for applying to the respective colleges need to
be fulfilled, and
- monitors
other degree requirements including semester hours, GPA, residency
requirement, and college-specific regulations.
Transfer credit
evaluation
The Office of Admissions evaluates transfer courses applicable to High School
Course Requirements and General Education Program requirements, as well as
a number of courses applicable to the requirements of your major. Your major
department makes decisions about how the rest of your transfer courses apply
toward the requirements for your major.
- Review the University's Transfer Policies to find out about
calculating your transfer GPA, Iowa's course-repeat policy, and other Iowa credit
transfer policies.
- Search the Transfer
Equivalency Guide for commonly transferred courses offered at other Iowa
institutions and our major out-of-state transfer colleges. The system is designed
for prospective students who want to know how courses will transfer to Iowa and
for UI students who plan to take courses at other institutions in the summer
or at other times.
- The College of Pharmacy provides Transfer Information on its website, too.
