Scholarships for International Transfer Students, 2012
This summary lists general scholarships available to new international transfer students, regardless of major. To be eligible for these scholarships, students must be enrolled full time and may not already hold bachelor's degrees.

The number of scholarships is limited. Review deadline information carefully, because all of these scholarships require you to submit your application for admission (and all supporting documents) and be admitted well before the application deadline.

2 Plus 2 Transfer Scholarship
For students transferring directly from an Iowa community college and enrolled in the 2 Plus 2 Guaranteed Graduation Plan

• 25 awards per year based on highest cumulative transfer grade-point average (GPA)
• Value: $1,000; May be Renewed
• Deadlines: Your UI Application for Admission must be on file by March 1 for summer session or fall semester; October 1 for spring semester. (A separate scholarship application is not required.)

Iowa Heritage Award
For entering nonresident students who have a parent, step-parent, legal guardian, or grandparent who graduated from The University of Iowa with a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree

• Must present a cumulative transfer GPA of 2.50 or above at the time of application
• Value: $1,500; May be Renewed
• Deadlines: The Iowa Heritage Award Application* is due May 4 for summer session and fall semester; December 7 for spring semester.

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship
For transfer students who have earned 30 semester hours at the time of application, maintained a cumulative transfer GPA of 3.50 or above, and are current members of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society of the Two-Year College (PTK)

• Value: $1,000; May be Renewed
• Up to 15 awards based on highest GPAs
• Deadlines:
  • If applying for admission in spring, your UI Application for Admission must be on file by October 1, and your PTK Membership Confirmation Form* received by November 1. Recipients will be notified by November 15.
  • If applying for admission in summer or fall, your UI Application for Admission must be on file by March 1 and your PTK Membership Confirmation Form* received by April 4. Recipients will be notified by April 15.

Iowa Community College Transfer Academic Scholarship
For students transferring directly from an Iowa community college who have earned 30 semester hours at the time of application and maintained a cumulative transfer GPA of 3.85 or above

• Value: $1,000; May be Renewed
• Up to 35 awards based on highest GPAs
• Deadlines:
  • If applying for admission for spring, your UI Application for Admission must be on file by October 1. Recipients will be notified by November 15.
  • If applying for admission for summer or fall, your UI Application for Admission must be on file by March 1. Recipients will be notified by April 15.
• A separate scholarship application is not required.

All-Iowa Academic Team Scholarship
For students named to the 2012 Phi Theta Kappa All-Iowa Academic Team

• Value: $1,500; May be Renewed
• Send a copy of your All-Iowa Academic Team award certificate or confirmation letter to the Office of Admissions, 107 Calvin Hall, The University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA 52242-1396 (Attn: Cindy Roberts). An electronic copy may be submitted via e-mail.

All-USA Academic Team Scholarship
For students named to the 2012 Phi Theta Kappa All-USA Academic Team (first, second, or third team)

• Value: Equal to Resident Tuition; May be Renewed
• Send a copy of your All-USA Academic Team award certificate or confirmation letter to the Office of Admissions, 107 Calvin Hall, The University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA 52242-1396 (Attn: Cindy Roberts). An electronic copy may be submitted via e-mail.

Engineering Transfer Scholarship
For any transfer student admitted to the College of Engineering for summer or fall 2012 with at least 12 semester hours earned toward the engineering degree, and a minimum GPA of 3.25 on courses that will be applied toward the engineering degree

• Value: $1,000 (15 awards); one-time award
• Deadline: the online Engineering Transfer Scholarship Application will be available in October 2011. The application deadline will be March 31, 2012.
