Innovative teaching
I enjoy developing new curricula and learning opportunities for students, such as our new end-of-life-care field of practice and our new service learning and immersion learning opportunities for students.

Learning by doing
I also enjoy creating learning activities in which students engage in experiential learning and then reflect on what they learned and relate it to the content of the curriculum.

Engaging discussions
In class, I primarily use discussions—in dyads, small groups, and large groups of up to about 20 students. I use some PowerPoint presentations and films. I have students do presentations in class and provide each other with feedback. I use a course web site to add additional resources, and I require students to participate in a web site bulletin board discussion of the assigned reading.

Inspiring action
I encourage each student to believe that it is possible to make a difference.
