- The newest technology. Iowa offers campus-wide wireless hotspots, high-speed internet service for every residence hall resident, more than 100 laptops available for checkout, and more than 1,000 free computer stations at 26 campus locations.
- Research opportunities. Top Iowa students—including undergraduates—can find many opportunities to work with and learn from faculty researchers through the Iowa Center for Research by Undergraduates (ICRU)
- Career guidance. The Pomerantz Career Center staff can connect students with internship and job opportunities and help them write résumés and prepare for interviews.
- Distinguished faculty. Iowa has more than 1,700 tenured and tenure-track Faculty Members; 97 percent of them have the highest degrees in their fields.

- Academic assistance. There are many campus resources for students who need extra academic help, including study skills workshops, writing, math, and speaking labs, and individual Academic Advising sessions.
- A comprehensive library. Iowa's Library System includes more than four million volumes, including periodicals, videos, and electronic reference materials.
- Multiple performance venues. The University has its own Museum of Art collection, concert halls, dance recital spaces, and theaters of varying sizes to give students full freedom to express their creativity, practice their craft, and learn from professional touring companies.

- UI Hospitals and Clinics has been included among "America's Best Hospitals" for 21 years running in U.S. News & World Report. Many undergraduates work or volunteer at the hospital.
- Nine hospital specialties rank among the top 50 in the nation, including otolaryngology, ophthalmology, and neurosurgery, according to U.S. News & World Report.
- Iowa is a major research university, with all faculty engaged in research and numerous opportunities for student participation through programs like the Iowa Center for Research by Undergraduates (ICRU). According to the most recent National Science Foundation survey (2009), the UI is ranked 21st among public universities in terms of receiving federal funding for research and development.
