Students and faculty from the School of Music in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences made a valiant effort to save their instruments, lining upper hallways of their building with Steinway grand pianos. But with practice spaces wiped out, school officials turned to the Iowa City community, and found a more than welcoming host. Organ doctoral student Julia Howell talks about the buildings, churches, and businesses that took in musicians of many disciplines, and notes that although locations have changed, the top-notch instruction at Iowa remains.
