UI Libraries lend hand to preservation efforts

University Libraries suffered some damage in the flood of 2008, but institutions such as the Czech and Slovak Museum and Library and the African American Museum of Iowa were much less fortunate. Preservation director Nancy Kraft offered to help, bringing soiled baskets and soggy record albums to her staff for cleaning and preservation. Some items require nearly an entire workweek to clean, but it’s nothing a little elbow grease—or saliva, to be accurate—can’t handle.
