Background:
Lauren Rabinovitz's current research and teaching interests include early cinema and culture, feminist film history and theory, and theories and history of visual spectacles. Her most recent books are: MEMORY BYTES: HISTORY, TECHNOLOGY, AND CULTURE (2004); FOR THE LOVE OF PLEASURE: WOMEN, MOVIES AND CULTURE IN TURN-OF-THE-CENTURY CHICAGO (1998); and TELEVISION, HISTORY AND AMERICAN CULTURE: FEMINIST CRITICAL ESSAYS (1999). Her interactive turn-of-the-century amusement park, YESTERYEAR'S WONDERLANDS, is forthcoming as a CD-ROM in 2005, and she is working on a book on grand scale visual spectacle in American culture from nineteenth century panoramas to Cinerama to IMAX and motion simulation rides.
