Important - MUST READ
The Communication Studies Department at the University of Iowa recognizes that internships provide students with access to professional work experiences and serve as a means for students to build experiences in work environments related within and to the communication field that augments and supplements experiences gained through course work in the classroom.
Once a student has earned 12 semester hours in the major, the department offers students an option to earn college credit for an internship and students can count their internship credit hours towards the practice group requirement or toward their overall degree requirements. Students wishing to earn credit for an internship must pay tuition and there are academic requirements that must be completed as well as the actual work hours for the internship.
Non-credit options for internships are also available. Students who do not wishing to earn credit may opt to register their internship position and site through the Pomerantz Career Center in order to have a notation pertaining to their internship on their degree evaluation and transcript.
Registration Information and Requirements for Internships
An internship checklist and information packet that outlines how to register an internship for credit as well as what requirements must be completed (see above). The packet includes the department’s internship application and credit verification form that the student must submit to the Department.
