Home of the world-renowned Iowa Writers' Workshop, the National Advanced Driving Simulator, and one of America's best hospitals, The University of Iowa is a comprehensive public university committed to high-quality teaching, research, and service. Founded in 1847 in Iowa City, Iowa, as the state's first public institution of higher learning, the University enrolls more than 30,500 students and offers several top-ranking programs.
