  • Complete the 2008-09 FAFSA on the web at the U.S. Department of Education web site (www.fafsa.ed.gov) as soon as possible after January 1, 2008. Although it is preferable to use a completed 2007 federal income tax return to complete the FAFSA, you may use reasonable estimates of your 2007 income.

  • List the University of Iowa’s Federal School Code, 001892, on the FAFSA.

  • Submit the 2008-09 UI Verification Form and requested 2007 tax information to the University of Iowa Office of Student Financial Aid as soon as possible.

  • Read and respond promptly to any information received from the University of Iowa Office of Student Financial Aid. (If your parent plans to borrow the PLUS Loan, your parent must request the PLUS Loan each year after you receive your award notification.) The Parent (PLUS) Loan Request Form will be available after the student receives their 2008-2009 award notification.

  • If you are sent loan promissory notes and want to accept the loan, complete, sign, and return any loan promissory notes to the University of Iowa Office of Student Financial Aid. The Master Promissory Note (MPN) for the Federal Direct Loan(s) can be completed electronically at http://dlenote.ed.gov which will speed up the process.

  • Complete Entrance Loan Counseling on the web if you are a first-time borrower of a Federal Direct Student Loan. You can do this any time before the semester begins.

  • Enroll for the number of hours on which your financial aid was based.

  • Consult the University of Iowa Office of Student Financial Aid if you are an undergraduate student and plan to drop below full-time status (twelve hours).

  • Keep your residing address up-to-date by using ISIS.

  • Reapply for financial aid each year. Financial aid is not renewed automatically.
