Student Employee of the Year Recognition Process

In conjunction with National Student Employment Week (April 12-18, 2009), the University seeks to recognize the achievements of students employed through student part-time hourly and Work-Study programs.  Employers are encouraged to nominate outstanding student hourly employees and to host celebrations at their work site during this national week.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Undergraduate and graduate students paid on an hourly basis through the student hourly employment programs
  • Students employed a minimum of three months full-time or six months part-time from June 1, 2008 through May 31, 2009.

Selection Criteria

(established by the National Association of Student Employment Administrators)

  • Reliability
  • Quality of Work
  • Initiative
  • Professionalism
  • Uniqueness of Contribution (the deciding factor in a tie)

Time Frame

  • Employer submits a Nomination Form and a separate nomination letter to 213 Calvin Hall by February 16, 2009.
  • The Selection Committee reviews the nominations and selects the campus winners by March 2.
  • The name of the campus winner is forwarded for regional competition with the winner selected by March 18.

Awards

  • University of Iowa Student Employee of the Year – One student is selected. The winner receives a gift certificate to the IMU bookstore along with a movie pass, mug and award certificate.  Their nomination documents are forwarded for advancement to the regional competition.
  • Certificate of Distinction – The number of students selected varies each year based on the applicant pool.  The winners receive a movie pass, mug and award certificate.
  • Certificate of Appreciation - The number of students selected varies each year based on the applicant pool.  The winners receive a movie pass, mug and award certificate.

Winners of the above awards are invited to a recognition luncheon with the University of Iowa President. A private award ceremony will also be held at their individual employment sites.

All nominees will receive a Student Employee of the Year mug.
