Any job on campus will qualify for Work-Study support if it is not affiliated with a religious or political organization. The employer pays 50% of the student's wage. The Work-Study program pays the remaining 50% up to the dollar limitation of the student's Work-Study award.
Currently, over thirty community employers representing non-profit or government agencies are approved to hire Work-Study employees. The employer pays 50% of the student's wage and the Work-Study program pays the remaining 50% up to the dollar limitation of the student's Work-Study award.
In accordance with President Clinton's America Reads Initiative, eligible students are trained to tutor local elementary students and assist with family literacy programs. This program supports students who tutor individual elementary students through the Iowa City Community School District and students who tutor individuals and groups of children and parents through the Neighborhood Center of Johnson County. The Work-Study program funds 100% of the wage.
Community service jobs involve services which improve the quality of life for community residents. Both on-campus and off-campus employers offer a variety of jobs that meet the Federal definition of community service. If the position qualifies for community service support, the employer pays 40% of the student's wage. The Work-Study program pays the remaining 60% up to the dollar limitation of the student's Work-Study award. | ||||||||||||||
