September- December |
- In the fall of your senior year of high school, apply for admission to The University of Iowa.
- Plan to attend financial aid workshops wherever available.
- Apply for scholarships and grants. You should also check with your high school counselor for scholarship opportunities.
|
| January |
- As Soon As Possible After January 1, submit the 2008-2009 FAFSA on the web.
- File parents' and student's federal tax returns early. Keep copies of every document sent to the IRS (1040, all schedules, W-2's, etc.). The Financial Aid Office requires signed and dated photocopies of the federal tax returns.
|
February- May |
- Approximately 3-5 weeks after you submit your FAFSA/Renewal FAFSA, the federal processor will send a Student Aid Report (SAR) or e-mail to you at the address listed on your FAFSA/Renewal FAFSA. If there are numbers for the Expected Family Contribution (EFC), the University of Iowa is listed, and your social security number is correct, the federal processor will send your information electronically to the University of Iowa Office of Student Financial Aid (UI OSFA). Keep the SAR/e-mail for your records. If the EFC is blank (no number listed), the University of Iowa is not listed and/or your social security number is not correct, follow the instructions on the SAR/e-mail for making corrections.
- Once the Office of Student Financial Aid has received the results of your FAFSA/Renewal FAFSA from the federal processor, and if you are admitted to a degree program, the UI OSFA will contact you about how to obtain the Iowa Verification Form (IVF) from ISIS. You must complete the IVF and return it to the UI Office of Student Financial Aid along with signed and dated photocopies of your and your parents' (if applicable) 2007 federal income tax returns. We recommend that you mail the required tax returns and IVF together to the UI Office of Student Financial Aid.
- After the University of Iowa Office of Student Financial Aid has received all required documents, your application will be reviewed. (See How to Apply.) You can check the status of your financial aid on ISIS. The Office of Student Financial Aid will notify you of your eligibility for financial aid. You may be directed to ISIS to view your award notification. For more information about what to do with your financial aid notification and any documents that may accompany it, see Award Notification and Promissory Notes.
