Entrance and Exit Counseling for Direct Loan Borrowers

Federal Direct Loan borrowers are required to complete mandatory entrance and exit counseling. The purpose of the counseling is to provide you with information regarding your rights and responsibilities.

The Office of Student Financial Aid now offers online entrance and exit counseling sessions, which may be completed at your convenience. To complete these interactive counseling sessions, click on the appropriate box to the left.

Entrance and exit counseling helps you understand how to manage your student loans and the commitment that comes with the acceptance of a student loan. It is important for all borrowers to realize that student loans are not grants or scholarships; they require repayment.

If you are completing the Exit Counseling you can check your record on the National Student Loan Data System(NSLDS) - the U.S. Department of Education's central database for student aid at www.nslds.ed.gov. You will need to have a personal identification number(PIN) to access the site. If you used a PIN to apply for federal financial aid, you should use that PIN for the NSLDS access. If you need to obtain a PIN, apply for one at www.pin.ed.gov.

If you have any problems completing the online counseling, call the Office of Student Financial Aid at 319/335-1450 (toll-free 800-553-4692).
