Iowa Pathways Program
The Iowa Pathways Program is available to first-time, first-year undergraduate dependent students (not transfer students) who are residents of Iowa and graduate in the top ten percent of their Iowa high school graduating class. The parent income must be at or below 150% of poverty level and the student must be eligible for a Federal Pell Grant.
The total award will cover tuition, fees, room and board, and book expenses using a combination of grants, scholarships, and work-study from federal, state, University, and private sources.
Students must be enrolled full-time each semester and demonstrate financial need by filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). For the 2008-2009 academic year, the FAFSA must be submitted to the Department of Education by March 1, 2008 and all supporting documents must be submitted to the University of Iowa Office of Student Financial Aid by May 1, 2008. Funds are limited and are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
All students receiving the University of Iowa Pathways Grant will be required to meet with a Financial Aid Counselor during the academic year to review the financial aid application process and forms, financial aid disbursement requirements, and money management issues.
To participate in this program in subsequent years, students must:
- be enrolled full-time each semester,
- maintain a 3.0 University of Iowa grade point average,
- have a parental income at or below 150% of poverty level, and
- be eligible for a Federal Pell Grant (determined by filing the FAFSA). Each year the FAFSA must be filed by March 1 and all supporting documents must be submitted by May 1 for the upcoming academic year.
