Requirements for the Disbursement of Aid

In order for your financial aid funds to be disbursed (applied) to your University bill or released to you, you must:

  • be enrolled at least half-time (except for Federal Pell Grant) in a program leading to a degree at The University of Iowa. At the time of your disbursement, your registration hours must match the enrollment hours used by the Office of Student Financial Aid to determine your award. All scholarships and some other financial aid programs require full-time enrollment. (Audits, correspondence courses, and cooperative education 00 hours do not count for enrollment for financial aid);

  • not have an outstanding charge from a previous term;

  • complete, sign, and return any promissory note(s) and, if applicable, Statement of Rights and Responsibilities if you have been awarded the Federal Perkins Loan, Nursing Loan, Law Foundation Loan, Health Professions Loan, and/or William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan;

  • have completed Entrance Loan Counseling, if you have been awarded the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan and you are a first-time borrower (you only have to complete this one time to cover all years that you receive the Federal Direct Loans);

  • maintain satisfactory academic progress toward the completion of your degree as defined in the Reasonable Academic Progress (RAP) Standards; and

  • not be in default on any educational loan, nor owe any refund on a grant or loan at any institution.

    In addition, most aid must be released to the University Billing Office by the last day of your attendance period. For students who have been awarded Work-Study or are interested in part-time employment, refer to the student employment section of our Web site.
