If a scholarship description indicates the award is to first-year students, this means undergraduates entering the University directly from high school. Horatio Alger Scholarship To first-year students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents that possess a strong commitment to pursue a bachelor's degree. Applications must be completed the senior year of high school. Applicants must have demonstrated integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity, be involved in co-curricular and community activities, demonstrate critical financial need and graduate with a minimum 2.0 high school grade point average on a 4.0 scale.Value: $600 annually, with an aggregate award maximum of $3,000 for undergraduate study at The University of Iowa. Blue-Iowa Centennial Memorial Foundation To residents of Iowa who will attend an accredited Iowa college or university. Applicants are expected to demonstrate literary and scholastic ability; exhibit qualities of truth, courage, and fellowship; and display moral force of character.Value: Amount and number vary. Tom Brokaw Scholarship Fund To provide support to first-year Native Americans based on need and merit.Value: $1000 Contact: Candidates will automatically be considered from the APRIL 1ST Freshman Admit list - no application is required. Carver Scholars Program To select full-time students who will be starting their junior year in the fall semester of the award year. Scholarship recipients will be of great potential and promise, who have to work hard to make ends meet and have been faced with unusual or debilitating circumstances in their lives. Students must present evidence of unusual social and/or other barriers to attending college full-time (from one-parent families; attending college while working full-time; have a social, mental, or physical handicap; have a family to support, etc.). Must be a U.S. citizen and have graduated from an accredited high school in the state of Iowa, earned an Iowa G.E.D., or have been a resident of Iowa for at least five consecutive years immediately prior to application. Eligible students must demonstrate financial need by filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) prior to March 1 of the award year and must have a minimum grade-point average of 2.8. May be renewed for one additional year or until baccalaureate degree received, whichever comes first. Recipients awarded for their junior year must submit a renewal application at www.carvertrust.org for their senior year.Value: $5,200 (20 new awards and 20 renewal awards). Albert M. and Mary L Efner Scholarship To first-time undergraduate students who have earned an associates degree from Indian Hills Community College. Based on need and merit. If no qualified candidates from Indian Hills, may consider first-time students from Wapello County high schools.Value: Number and amounts vary. Falk Scholarship To selected students of Protestant faith, who are full-time students at The University of Iowa. Grinnell Mutual Group Foundation Fund To first-year full-time students with a high school GPA of 2.5 or higher who are a dependent child (natural, adopted, or step-child) of a current employee of the company or of an affiliated mutual company. Box 790, Grinnell, IA 50112. Susan C. Hancher Award To the senior woman who exemplifies outstanding qualities of leadership, motivation, concern, and dedication. Philip G. Hubbard Human Rights Award To a University of Iowa student who has made outstanding contributions in the area of human rights. No application is required; student must be nominated. Iowa Farm Scholarship/Iowa Basketball Lettermen Fund To selected entering first-year students in the top one-fourth of their high school graduating class whose parents own and operate an Iowa farm. Financial need is considered. One of the awards will be granted each year in memory of Chris Street, an Iowa basketball player killed in a 1993 traffic accident. Participation in interscholastic high school athletics also will be considered in determining this recipient.Value: Up to resident tuition (3 awards). May be renewed for up to three additional years if appropriate grade-point average is maintained. Johnson Memorial Prize Awarded to graduating student with the highest academic standing in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. No application is required; all qualified candidates will automatically be considered.Value: $1,000 (one award) Phyllis R. Johnson Memorial Scholarship To an entering first-year student who is a dependent or relative of an employee of the Principal Financial Group. May be renewed but parent/relative must remain employed with Principal. Financial need is considered. A FAFSA should be completed as soon as possible after January 1 for upcoming academic year.Value: $800 (four annual awards). Deadline: April 1. To apply, please send a letter of interest that clearly states the name of the Principal employee and your relationship to that person to the Office of Student Financial Aid, 208 Calvin Hall, Iowa City, IA 52242-1315. The Office of Student Financial Aid will verify the employment of the relative you are applying under with the Principal Financial Group directly. Kenneth T. Key Undergraduate Scholarship To upperclass Iowa-born students who demonstrate financial need. Value: Up to full resident tuition. Contact: No application is required. JoAnn and Jerry Kramer Scholarship To deserving students who demonstrate financial need and academic merit in their field of study.Value: Number and amounts vary. Peterson Scholarship for American Indian Women To an entering first-year woman student of American Indian descent with a tribal affiliation. Intended to financially assist students who otherwise would be unable to attend college. Renewable for three additional years (8 semesters total). No application required; qualified students are automatically considered.Value: $4,000 plus tuition (one award) Olive Pearl Ritter Scholarship To upperclass students who demonstrate financial need and who have demonstrated scholastic proficiency. May be renewed depending upon available funding, showing need and merit. Value: Number and amounts vary. Contact: No application is required. All qualified candidates will be considered. Ezra L. Totton Scholarship To entering first-year students with preference given to Black students intending to major in the physical sciences, preferably chemistry. No application is required; qualified students are automatically considered.Value: Amount varies depending on funding (one award) University of Iowa Black Alumni Scholarship To selected full-time sophomore through graduate students of Afro-American heritage with UI cumulative grade-point averages of at least 2.50. UI Homecoming Scholarship To students who will have sophomore or junior standing by September 1 who possess a minimum GPA of 2.974 and demonstrate outstanding leadership to the University of Iowa and its community.Value: $500 (two awards). Deadline: See Application USS Scholarship To entering first-year students based on academic performance and financial need. Recipients must be full-time students in a major that has application in the business environment.
