Air Force Dental Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP) To selected students who are pursuing a career in dentistry, leading to a D.D.S. or D.M.D. degree, who have been accepted into an accredited dental college. Deadline: June 1 LaVerne Noyes Scholarship To undergraduate students with no prior degree who are U.S. citizens and are direct blood descendants of U.S. Army or Navy veterans who served in World War I as specified on the application. Financial need is required. A FAFSA should be completed as soon as possible after January 1 for the upcoming academic year. May be renewed for an additional three years (8 semesters total) or until a baccalaureate degree received, whichever comes first. U.S. Navy - Financial Assistance Program The Navy's Financial Assistance Program (FAP) is also available for medical and dental students who categorically match into a specialty that the Navy has openings for. Traditionally this includes surgical categories, radiology, anesthesiology, and some ancillary specialties for doctors. For dentists, typically oral surgery, periodontics, and endodontics.Value: The Navy currently pays participants $42,351 for each year in this program. This is in addition to any pay received from the residency institution. Amounts are normally adjusted upward in July of each year. U.S. Navy - Health Services Collegiate Program Only offered through the United States Navy, this unique program is an excellent opportunity to earn money and benefits while finishing a required degree (Masters or PhD) for the job openings that are available. Typically these include Health Care Administration, Entomology, Environmental Health, Pharmacy, Podiatry (Surgical Residents only), and Dental. Additional openings in other fields may be available on a case-by-case basis annually. This program may be two or three years in length. There are four-year positions available for dental students only. Minimum Qualifications: U.S. citizen, at least 18 and receive commission before 42nd birthday, excellent health, 3.0 or higher GPA, and of high moral character. Value: Participants in this program will receive approximately $2,400-$2,800 per month take-home pay depending on school location and marital status. This equates to approximately $30,000-$36,000 per year gross pay. Students must pay their own tuition and school costs. Students pay taxes only on a portion of this income and are entitled to most of the benefits of being an active duty member. Other benefits include: medical and dental coverage (for student and dependents), $400,000 life insurance available for student (spouses can receive coverage for minimal charge and children automatically are covered for $10,000 at no charge), Thrift Savings Plan (Similar to 401K), students earn 30 days vacation each year in the program, time in this program counts towards retirement (20-year eligibility) and longevity for pay raises with many more benefits. No uniforms, grooming standards, or military training while in school. It allows financial assistance to nursing students while they complete their Bachelor or Science degree. Students can receive assistance under this program for their last 24 months or less of school. There are no uniforms or military training while you complete school--this is not an ROTC program. All you need to do is maintain your GPA and graduate on time. Minimum Qualifications: U.S. citizen, at least 18 and receive commission before 42nd birthday, excellent health, 3.0 or higher GPA, and of high moral character.Value: Maximum of $34,000 for the last 24 months or less of school depending on date the student enters the program. This equates to a $10,000 bonus split into two payments of $5,000. Students receive their first installment when they begin the program and the second installment six months after they begin the program. Students also receive $1,000 per month stipend.
