You must be admitted to a degree program at The University of Iowa before your financial aid application will be reviewed. Financial aid applications at The University of Iowa are processed as they become complete and until all funds are awarded. Some financial aid programs are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. The University of Iowa does not set aside funds to award in January for mid-year transfer students.



   
Financial Aid for Transfer Students

2008 Spring Semester or 2008 Summer Session

If you are currently enrolled at another institution, you should inform that financial aid office that you will be transferring. To complete your financial aid application and insure consideration for financial aid at The University of Iowa, you must have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You must also submit the other required forms to the University of Iowa Office of Student Financial Aid. After we receive all of the required forms, your file will be reviewed and within three weeks you will be notified of your eligibility for financial aid.

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

If you have not filed the 2007-2008 FAFSA, complete it as soon as possible. The FAFSA can be completed on the web at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Be sure to list the University of Iowa (Federal school code = 001892) in Step 6.

If you have filed the 2007-2008 FAFSA, but did not list the University of Iowa in Step 6, use one of the following methods to have your FAFSA information sent to The University of Iowa.

  • If you kept a copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR), call the federal processor at 319-337-5665 or 800-433-3243 to request that your information be sent to the University of Iowa--Federal school code 001892. (You will need to provide your DRN number which is printed on the top right corner of your SAR.)
  • If you did not keep a copy of your SAR, call the federal processor at 319-337-5665 or 800-433-3243 to obtain a copy of your SAR. After you receive your SAR, follow the instructions in the preceding paragraph.

General Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for funds awarded through the UI Office of Student Financial Aid, you must:

  • be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States for federal and state programs;

  • demonstrate financial need as determined by the established federal formula and meet the eligibility requirements of each aid program;

  • be enrolled at least half-time in a program leading to a degree at The University of Iowa. All scholarship and some aid programs require full-time enrollment. Federal Pell Grants may be available to students registered less than half-time. (Audits and cooperative education 00 hours do not count);

  • maintain satisfactory academic progress as defined by The University of Iowa Reasonable Academic Progress (RAP) Standards;

  • be in compliance with Selective Service registration;

  • not be in default on any educational loan and not owe any refund on a grant or loan at any institution.

Federal Direct Loans

If you are attending another post-secondary institution for the 2007-08 academic year and if you have already borrowed the maximum Federal Direct Loan/Federal Family Education Loan at your current grade level and you will not be advancing grade levels during the 2008 Spring/Summer terms, you may not be eligible for any additional loans for the 2008 Spring semester and/or Summer terms.

Check the Status of Your Aid

You can check the status of your financial aid on the web using ISIS. Check to make sure you are in the correct session to view your financial aid status. If you need a password for ISIS, click on Help after accessing ISIS.

  • Click on Student Records
  • Click on Financial Aid
  • Click on the appropriate heading(s)
Enrollment Verification for Loan Deferment Purposes

The University of Iowa participates in the National Student Clearinghouse and sends enrollment data to them every two weeks. All lenders have access to the Clearinghouse to verify student enrollment; therefore, you should not need to complete a paper deferment form. However, if you want to send paper enrollment data to your lender, you can access the Clearinghouse via ISIS and print an enrollment certificate to send to your lender. After accessing ISIS, click on the heading Student Records, click on National Student Clearinghouse, click on Obtain an Enrollment Certificate. Applying for 2008-2009 Financial Aid

Financial aid applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. Submit the 2008-2009 Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible after January 1, 2008.
