UIHC's Department of Nursing and Patient Care Services receives the International Research Utilization Award from Sigma Theta Tau International.
Joel N. Kline, assistant professor of internal medicine, receives the American College of Chest Physicians' Young Investigator Award.
Tracy Davis, a member of the Campus Programs and Student Activities staff, wins two national prizes for his dissertation: the Melven D. Hardee Dissertation of the Year Award from the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators and the Burns B. Crookston Doctoral Research Award from the American College Personnel Association.
Professor Bob Boynton, political science, wins the Grand Prize in Microsoft's Innovations in Higher Education Challenge for "Online at Iowa," a virtual tour of campus and University programs.

Professor Steve Duck, chair of the Department of Communication Studies, wins the Berscheid-Hatfield Award for Distinguished Mid-Career Achievement from the International Network on Personal Relationships. Creative writing professor Marilynne Robinson receives a Mildred and Harold Strauss Living award from the American Academy of Arts. Professor Jeffrey Murray, pediatrics, wins the Society of Pediatric Research's E. Mead Johnson Award. Undergraduates Brad Ketels, Brandon Miller, Tom Nagle, Jason Smith, and Steve Suarez take first place in the 1998 Steel Bridge Competition, sponsored by the American Society of Civil Engineers at its upper Midwest regional conference. The UI team makes a clean sweep by finishing first in all six judging categories. The University's audiology program is ranked Number One and the speech/language pathology program Number Three in the nation by U.S. News and World Report. |
