Cross-Cultural Training

As our world becomes more connected and interdependent, it is imperative that all of us learn how to communicate with individuals who are different from ourselves. the University's Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) offers cross-cultural training simulation exercises and educational programs to help faculty, staff, students, and organizations recognize differences and develop effective strategies for working with differences. This includes understanding issues from a variety of cultural perspectives. Intercultural training goals include:

  • Creating a campus and community environment that is welcoming to students from all over the world.
  • Helping participants identify and develop the knowledge and skills necessary to communicate successfully with non-native speakers of English and across cultures.
  • Enabling participants to discover that our actions and our communication styles are manifestations of different cultural norms and world views.
  • Helping students understand and work effectively in a variety of cross-cultural classroom and living situations, including one-on-one, team and group settings.
