The State Hygienic Laboratory at the University of Iowa tests drinking water for municipalities, and for private citizens as well. We test for substances such as radioisotopes, bacteria, nitrates, and pesticides. This allows communities and individuals to make informed decisions about their water treatment systems.
The State Hygienic Laboratory also tests the viability of our lakes and rivers, assuring that there is no build-up of hazardous substances. This testing protects municipal drinking water sources, sustains the recreational value of the waters for fishing, boating, and swimming, and preserves the natural beauty of the state.
