HR Unit Representatives Orientation

Human Resources Orientation Checklist

The purpose of the Human Resources Orientation Checklist is to help orient a person whose new campus position has human resource responsibilities. The person may be new or not new to the University. The competency section has been developed with the expectation that these are the critical policies, procedures, programs, etc. that the new HR professional should be familiar with during the first three to six months of employment. With the exception of graduate assistants, the orientation checklist does not cover issues specific to the recruitment and hiring of faculty or students. The terminology section provides a common understanding of key human resource terms used on campus. The other two sections, offices and web sites, are general resources. Overall, the Orientation Checklist has been designed to actively encourage the use of web-based information. For each competency, an assumption exists that a new HR professional receives guidance and information from their department/unit and college/division regarding the item/competency listed.
