Human Resources Orientation Checklist

Knowledge  |  Terminology  |  Key Offices  |  Web Sites

The purpose of the Human Resources Orientation Checklist is to help orient a person whose new campus position has human resource responsibilities. The person may or not be new to the University.

The knowledge section has been developed with the expectation that these are the critical policies, procedures and programs that the new HR professional should be familiar with during the first three to six months of employment. With the exception of graduate assistants, the orientation checklist does not cover issues specific to the recruitment and hiring of faculty or students.

The terminology section provides a common understanding of key human resource terms used on campus.

The other two sections, offices and web sites, are general resources.

Overall, the Orientation Checklist has been designed to actively encourage the use of web-based information. For each knowledge item, an assumption is made that a new HR professional receives guidance and information from their department/unit and college/division regarding the item/knowledge listed.
