Guiding Principles for a New Benefits Program Design

FRIC Principles for a new benefits structure – Spring 2008

FRIC adopted guiding principles for a new benefit design:

  1. All staff must have basic life and long term-disability coverage at no cost.
  2. Single health and dental insurance is free.
  3. There is a University contribution towards the premiums for a spouse/partner and/or children health and dental insurance.
  4. Dual-employed couples at The University of Iowa receive free health and dental insurance policies under one employee.
  5. Dependent children are assigned only to one parent if both parents are employed.
  6. Everyone receives a general flex credit.
