CHANGES, COVERAGE, COST
Changes
At the recommendation of The Funded Retirement and Insurance Committee, the Dental I dental insurance plan is being closed effective 12/31/2012.
Those insured under that plan who wish to maintain dental insurance coverage through the University must select the Dental II plan during open enrollment.
-
The Dental II plan essentially doubles the coverage if Dental I, with an additional $750 coverage for restorative work and/or orthodontics.
The Dental I plan was closed due to declining enrollment and increasing premiums:
-
Almost 1000 faculty and staff have dropped this plan in the last year
-
For 2013, Dental I costs to the University were set to rise in some family statuses to the point that they would have been approximately the same as the more robust Dental II plan.
- The cost to employees for Dental I premiums were set to rise dramatically - to the point that they would have been approximately the same as the more robust Dental II plan.
Dental Coverage
Your benefits include a University contribution toward the cost of health and dental insurance for permanent University faculty, professional and scientific staff, and supervisory exempt merit staff holding a 50% time or greater appointment.
COVERAGE
Description and comparison of plans. Enrollment in the dental plan is optional. For no coverage, select option number “90.” If you want dental coverage, you must select from the dental programs shown. Once coverage is selected, enter that number on the line labeled “Option Code.”
