Completing Your Personal Enrollment
These instructions will assist you in completing your Personal Enrollment for The University of Iowa Benefits Program.
The University contributes towards the cost of health and dental insurance for permanent University faculty, professional and scientific staff, and supervisory exempt merit staff holding a 50% time or greater appointment.
Health Coverage. Description and comparison of plans. Enrollment is optional. If you do not want coverage, select option number “90.” If you want medical coverage, you must select from the medical programs shown. Once the type of coverage is selected, enter that number on the line labeled “Option Code.”

Changes and cost for 2013
There are no changes to the UIChoice premiums or coverage for 2013.
At the recommendation of The Funded Retirement and insurance Committee, the CHIP II health insurance plan is being closed effective 12/31/2012.
Those insured under that plan who wish to maintain health insurance coverage through the University must select the UIChoice plan during open enrollment.
The UIChoice plan:

covers the same providers and facilities as CHIP II
-
has coverage that applies anywhere in the United States and is good internationally
- Will most likely decrease overall out-of-pocket expenses for the majority of people who were enrolled in CHIP II
The CHIP II health insurance plan was closed due to declining enrollment and increasing premiums:

There were less than 700 people enrolled in coverage on this plan – this means claims can have a large impact on costs for the plan.

For 2013, CHIP II costs to the University were set to rise to the point that they would have FAR exceeded those of the UIChoice plan.
