Long Term Care Insurance at the University of Iowa
The University of Iowa is offering a special enrollment opportunity.
Long-term Care Insurance is a voluntary benefit available to eligible University of Iowa employees and their eligible family members. The University has selected Genworth as the new insurer for this benefit. The special open enrollment runs January 7 - February 15th, 2013.
During this enrollment period, benefit-eligible faculty and staff (20 hrs or more) and their spouse or domestic partner, will be able to enroll online, and take advantage of an enrollment with no (or less rigorous) underwriting requirements.
Those without coverage may add it, and those with an existing policy can consider supplementing or replacing their current coverage. If you currently have coverage, no action is required, but you may want to examine the product.
There are very few carriers in this market taking new group enrollments, so this is a unique opportunity.
Long term care insurance covers expenses for long term care services received at home, in the community or in a nursing facility.
- Neither health nor disability insurance will cover this kind of care.
- Relying on government programs may not be a viable solution.
- Without insurance, the costs of these services may have to come out of your savings or income.
Employees and their eligible family members will have the chance to enroll in a program that pays for care in a variety of settings including care at home, in assisted living facilities, in adult day facilities, and in all types of nursing facilities.
