Academic Support Services
The academic support services function contributes to strategic educational, enrollment, persistence and graduation goals of the University by upholding academic integrity and through the creation and implementation of academic policies, procedures, programs and services that foster an excellent educational experience, promote student engagement and support student success.
Job Families and Purpose

Recruits, admits and enrolls students in sufficient quantity and quality to meet departmental, college and overall University enrollment goals and to ensure students make a smooth transition to University life. - Financial Aid Services—
Determines eligibility, type and amount of financial assistance to be awarded by evaluating and analyzing financial information submitted by applicants in accordance with established guidelines. - Instructional Services—
Provides instructional services support to faculty, staff and students by designing, developing, selecting, adapting or maintaining instructional/informational materials and classrooms for the purpose of teaching and learning. - Registrar Services—
Keeps the records of enrollment and academic standing by overseeing the student record and registration process, assessing tuition and fees, scheduling classrooms and maintaining course databases, overseeing degree progression, and conducting data analysis.

Facilities Operations
Manages facility/physical assets, resources, and services through stewardship of facilities assets and resources to sustain a clean, safe and aesthetically pleasing environment; part of this function also manages energy procurement, conversion and distribution systems for safe, reliable, and efficient operation of utility systems and adequate utilities systems capacity.

Provides support for clinical research enterprise by subject recruitment and enrollment, development of protocol, data collection, and study management. - Institutional Review Board Education and Compliance—
Designs, plans, promotes, and conducts in-depth, on-site reviews of selected human subjects research projects conducted by University of Iowa investigators for the purpose of assessing compliance with federal regulations, Institutional Review Board (IRB) requirements, and University of Iowa and Veteran's Administration Medical Center (VAMC) policies and procedures for the conduct of research involving human subjects. To develop, administer, and oversee a comprehensive educational program for students, faculty, and staff involved in human subjects research. - Institutional Review Board Operations—
Supervises, designs, plans, promotes, and conducts activities for the human subject protection programs and services administered by the Human Subjects Office (HSO). To serve as technical expert regarding federal and University regulations for the protection of human subjects who participate in research. To develop and coordinate procedures and programs to enhance investigator compliance with the IRB application process. - Intellectual Property Licensing and Protection—

Assures proper and safe use of chemicals by the university community by conducting workplace hazard and risk assessments and developing and administering programs that promote safe use and ensure regulatory compliance. - Clinical Laboratory Specialist—
Provides information as a part of achieving overall health for the general public by performing clinical laboratory tests for diagnosis, treatment, research, surveillance or prevention of disease. - Environmental Laboratory Specialist—
Provides information as a part of achieving overall health for the general public and quality of the environment by performing quantitative tests for diagnosis, treatment, research, surveillance or prevention of disease and the monitoring and prevention of environmental pollution. - Environmental Specialist—
Conducts, monitors, researches, inspects , or investigates for the purpose of identifying, abating or eliminating sources of hazards or pollutants that affect either the environment or health of the population by utilizing knowledge of various scientific disciplines to collect, synthesize, study, report and take action based on data derived from measurements or observations of/in air, water, food, soil or other matrices. Provides information as a part of achieving overall health for the general public and quality of the environment by performing quantitative and qualitative tests for diagnosis, treatment, research, surveillance or prevention of disease and the monitoring and prevention of environmental pollution. - Environmental Safety Specialist—
Manages a comprehensive environmental program relevant to the generation, collection, transport, processing and disposal of hazardous chemical, radioactive and other regulated waste, in compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines. - Occupational Safety Specialist—
Assures occupational health and safety and reduction of risks for the university community, by developing and administering programs for regulatory compliance, and conducting workplace hazards and risk assessments. - Radiation Safety Specialist—
Assures the proper and safe use of radioactive materials by the university community by conducting workplace hazard and risk assessments and developing and administering programs that ensure regulatory compliance.

Provides students with the opportunity for a well-rounded experience in non-curriculum related areas through the successful development and oversight of programs, services and facilities.
