Student loans through the Office of Financial Aid may be available to help with child care costs. To apply, the student must have a FAFSA, federal tax return and University of Iowa Verification Form on file at the Office of Student Financial Aid.

To provide to student parents free, safe and quality child care during midterms and finals to achieve academic success. Little Angels Learning Center celebrates the uniqueness and acceptance of all cultural and diverse backgrounds.

Students accessing the evening/weekend child care subsidy program will be placed on a wait list for this program. Priority will be given to students not funded through the evening/weekend child care subsidy program.
Hawkeye Kids Camp
Details/Fee/Registration/Scholarship/Alternate Format
Hawkeye Kids Camp is open to youth, grades Kindergarten through 6th. Faculty, staff and students of the University have priority. If you are a non-UI affiliated family, please contact Jane Holland at 335-1371.
Camp will take place
- March 15 – March 19, 2010, over spring break
- 7:15 AM to 5:30 PM
- UI Field House
- Drop – off, North Gym.
Morning and afternoon snacks will be provided. Campers will need to bring their own lunch Monday through Thursday. Lunch will be provided on Friday. Note: breakfast will not be available.
Comfortable clothes that allow the campers to be active throughout the day is suggested.
Camp activities may include but are not limited to board games, arts and crafts, basketball, soccer, badminton, and fun activities like scavenger hunts, obstacle courses and talent shows.

If your child prefers an outdoors camp experience,
Chickadee Camp, may be a possibility.
The camp fee is $180.00 and includes supervision, materials, activities, snacks and lunch on Friday.
This amount is due at the time that you register. If you must cancel after registering, a $50 administrative fee will be kept.
The registration deadline is Monday, March 8, 2010.
Camp is limited to 50 campers and filled on a first come basis. When all camp slots are taken, a waiting list will be established. As space becomes available, those on the waiting list will be notified.
To register your child for Hawkeye Kids Camp:
- Complete the application and medical form found by selecting the phrase, hkc_enroll.
- Along with the application, submit the registration fee of $180 per child. Make checks payable to “The University of Iowa”.
- If you wish to apply for a scholarship include with your application the scholarship form by selecting the phrase, hkc_scholarship_app. Do not submit the camp fee. Jane Holland will contact you later to discuss your payment.

Scholarships are available to University of Iowa faculty, staff, students and post docs/residents who qualify.
Criteria for a reduced camp fee are:
- the parent is either a half- time employee or a half- time student at the University of Iowa,
- the family’s income meet criteria, and
- the child is/children are eligible and will attend Hawkeye Kids Camp or Chickadee Camp.
Scholarships are limited and based on first come first serve. Information coming shortly.
- For families having an income under $25,000, the scholarship is $80.00 per child.
- For families having an income $25,001 to $35,000, the scholarship is $60.00 per child.
- For families having an income $35,001 to $40,000, the scholarship is $40.00 per child.
- For families having incomes over $40,000, scholarship funds are not provided.

Child Care Subsidy Application for Participating UI Student Parents
A Program Funded by the Family Services Office
Purpose:
Subsidy to help student parents with the cost of child care while attending the 2010 James F. Jakobsen Graduate Conference.
Eligibility
The student parent has a child under age 13 or under age 19 with a disability, and the student is
- currently enrolled at least half-time or is involved in academic responsibilities equivalent to half-time at the UI (exceptions may be possible);
- is seeking a UI degree: undergraduate or graduate/professional/Master’s/Ph.D.,
- resides with the child on the day of the conference, and
- has an annual family, gross income of less than $40,000.
Funding Level:
- For students attending the Friday evening session, up to $20 will be provided to help with the cost of the child care for one child.
- For students attending the Saturday session, up to $50 will be provided to help with the cost of the child care for one child.
- For students having two or more children, up to $35 will be provided for the Friday evening session and up to $75 for the Saturday session.
Caregivers
Student parents may use a caregiver of their choice as long as the caregiver can legally work in the United States and is paid by the student to provide child care while the student attends the 2010 James F. Jakobsen Graduate Conference.
If the student parent does not know of a possible caregiver, the Occasional Care Child Care program identifies University students willing to do babysitting. See http://www.iowa4cs.com/parents/occasionalcare
Process
Submit a completed application found at http://gss.grad.uiowa.edu/jakobsen-conference/downloads. Or, for an application, select: jfj_app (pdf).
Jane Holland, Family Services, will email letting the student know the status of the application. If approved, the student pays for the care and then submits a receipt. If a receipt form is needed, select: jfj_receipt (pdf)
The University will reimburse the child care up to the amount approved. Sent along with the approval email from Jane will be a template of the receipt posted above.
