Do I Have a Disability?

The EEOC broadly expands the definition of disability and states, “disability means…a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities.… Major life activities include, but are not limited to, caring for oneself, performing manual tasks, seeing, hearing, eating, sleeping, walking, standing, lifting, bending, speaking, breathing, learning, reading, concentrating, thinking, communicating, and work…. Major life activity also includes the operation of a major bodily function, including but not limited to, functions of the immune system, special sense organs and skin, normal cell growth, digestive, genitourinary, bowel, bladder, neurological, brain, respiratory, circulatory, cardiovascular, endocrine, hemic, lymphatic, musculoskeletal and reproductive functions and operation of an individual organ within a body system.”

If your health condition substantially limits one or more major life activity, you are able to request a reasonable accommodation under the ADA if you are having difficulty completing your job.
